Originally from New Hampshire, I’ve been loving life in Portland since the summer of 2021. I also have completed my Bachelor’s in Psychology with a special focus in somatics, trauma, and embodiment. In my free time, you might catch me dancing barefoot in the grass, riding my bicycle, creating music, or studying astrology.

My lifelong interest in alternative medicine led me from the mountains of Idaho to Portland, Oregon to pursue the study Chinese medicine following my mother’s breast cancer diagnosis. Witnessing the profound role that acupuncture and herbal medicine played in her successful treatment and recovery solidified my commitment to this ancient and powerful healing practice.

During my academic training, and post-graduation, I had the privilege of working for a decade under renowned herbalist Heiner Fruehauf, gaining extensive experience in classical Chinese herbalism, acupuncture, and immersion in the Jinjing Gong tradition of Qigong. My understanding and love for this medicine deepened even further when I faced my own healing challenge – a car accident that left me with multiple spinal fractures. Throughout my recovery, I relied extensively on acupuncture and Chinese herbs, ultimately regaining full health and vitality.

With over 20 years of clinical experience, I remain deeply dedicated to the practice of Chinese medicine. My passion for this beautiful medicine is strong and ever expanding. My treatments integrate acupuncture, essential oils, herbal remedies, lifestyle recommendations and nutritional counseling to support each patient’s unique path to wellness. I am continually inspired by the profound impact of this medicine in fostering both physical health and emotional well-being.

In my leisure time I find joy in the natural beauties of the Pacific Northwest, where I can often be found exploring the coast, rivers and mountains with my sweet and silly puppy Fiona. When not adventuring off the beaten path, I keep my hands in the dirt lovingly tending my biodynamic gardens to keep my kitchen stocked with fresh produce.

California born, Nevada raised, and now a local Portlander, Cate has been practicing massage and manual therapy since 2019. Her path into therapeutic work began unexpectedly at age 18 while studying theology in Germany, where she first developed a deep appreciation for holistic healing and the mind-body connection.

Cate brings a compassionate, grounded presence to her work, specializing in supporting those who often put their own needs last — caregivers, busy professionals, parents, and people navigating the physical and emotional toll of chronic stressors. Her sessions offer folks a chance to reconnect with their bodies, gain clarity around their patterns of movement and tension, and begin the process of meaningful, sustainable healing. Drawing on advanced techniques and training including Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy Technique, joint mobilization, facilitated stretching, and RockTape Kinesiology taping, Cate is a confident partner in post-surgical and non-surgical injury rehabilitation. Whether you’re an athlete recovering from injury, a retiree looking to move more independently, an expecting parent, or simply someone seeking to feel more at home in your body, Cate is committed to meeting you where you are and especially passionate about helping people build resilience, reduce pain, and develop a deeper sense of agency in their bodies. Working with Cate will move you toward greater connection, ease, and empowered action to care for yourself — on and off the massage table.

Cate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Public Health from the University of Nevada, Reno, and an Associate’s degree in Nutrition from TMCC. In addition to her massage therapy credentials, Cate is a certified 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher and Matwork Pilates.

When not at the clinic, Cate’s love of movement and mindfulness extends into her daily life through hiking, dancing, traveling, practicing acroyoga, and as a new percussionist for the Rose City Pride band!
